Microsoft SkyDrive Cloud Service Is Down


UPDATE: SkyDrive was back up at about 3:30pm PT as confirmed in this tweet.

Microsoft's cloud service is down for some users, Microsoft confirmed on the SkyDrive Twitter feed at about 2pm PT today.

"We are aware of issues currently affecting some SkyDrive users and are working to remedy the situation. Thanks for your patience!" reads the @SkyDrive tweet.

Exclusive: Travis Kalanick Recounts Death Threat from Michael Ovitz's Heavy


Uber CEO Travis Kalanick revealed on "This Week in Startups" that a man associated with Hollywood powerhouse Michael Ovitz -- an investor in Travis's pre-Napster P2P company Scour -- threatened his life [ see our story on Uber's roadmap ]. 

In the summer of 2000, the movie industry had just filed a lawsuit against Scour for $250B. Naturally, the suit made Ovitz look very bad in the entertainment world.

Exclusive: Uber CEO Lays out Road Map--Helicopters, Motorcycles and Food Delivery


Uber, the on-demand private car service, has the framework in place to eventually start providing food delivery and offering helicopter and motorcycle rides, said CEO Travis Kalanick on "This Week In Startups" [ full episode here and our story on Travis's death theat here ].

For the Deadpool: BookTour to Close Shop Sept. 1 

BookTour, an Amazon-funded startup founded in 2009 and based in San Francisco, is shutting down its services Sept. 1 due to a lack of authors and changes in book marketing budgets, according to an email sent Tuesday to BookTour authors.

Authors can download existing tour data as an XML file from their page or from here.

"And while we would like to continue providing the valuable service that is BookTour, everyone here has families to feed and bills to pay," the email read. "As such, the founders are working on new and exciting ventures in publishing and software development."
